Frederick J.S. Humphrey, age 86, husband of Marsha (Harrington) Humphrey passed away, April 15, 2017 at Valerie Manor, Torrington, Connecticut. Frederick was born on January 31, 1931, in Winsted Conn. and was a life-long Winsted resident. He was the son of the late Loyal and Mary (laFlamme) Humphrey. Frederick is survived by his sister, Ann (Humphrey) Germon (Richard), and nephew Willam Germon, nieces Bonnie and Deborah and families. Fred was pre-deceased by his sister Marie Macpherson and her husband Richard Macpherson and survived by niece Mandana Macpherson-Trotter and husband Cameron and their son Aidan of Freeport ME and nephew Richard Macpherson of Maine. He is also survived by his brothers- in-law James, Robert, and Francis Harrington and their families. Fred served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Fred was a retired Connecticut Department of Transportation employee with forty years of service. He was a carpenter and woodturner who created many beautiful wooden bowls as gifts for friends and family. As a founding member of the Northwestern Sportsmen’s fish and game Club in Colebrook CT, he held many different positions within the organization including the Board of Directors. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. Fred was an avid bow hunter and spent his happiest days hunting and fishing in Northwest Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. Fred was a Hunter Safety Instructor, trained and certified by the N.R.A. and in April of 1993 was issued a citation and plaque from the Connecticut Conservation Education Program in recognition of his 36 years of dedicated service as a Hunter-safety Firearms instructor.
