Preston – Fred H. Terpe, 88, of Preston died Sunday January 3, 2016 in the William W. Backus Hospital. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Greiner) Terpe for 66 years. Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick K. and Emma M. (Scheifele) Terpe.
Fred worked as an electrician for Beaudreau Electric. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. Fred served the Poquetanuck Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years in many capacities including Deputy Chief and Fire Police Captain retiring in 2013. He was a member of the New London County Chiefs Association, the Pequot Fire Police Association and the Preston VFW. He was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and bowling.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his three sons, Rev. Richard Terpe of Griswold, Frederick Terpe and his wife Allison of Preston and Kurt Terpe and his fiancée Heather Mongeau of Preston; seven grandchildren, Andrea Terpe, Barbara Terpe, Robert Terpe, Cynthia Terpe, Elizabeth Baker, Jennifer Bingham, and Brandon Terpe; seven great grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Emma Klaus and two nephews.
