Upland: Frederick R. “Fritz” Walz, Jr., 51, passed away unexpectedly in his home, March 26, 2013.

He was born in Hartford City to the late Frederick Walz, Sr., and Carol (Marsh) Walz. He graduated from Eastbrook High School with the class of 1980. He worked for the Grant County Highway Department for 18 years, worked part time at Dominoes Pizza, Marion, and was a bartender at The Icehouse, Marion. Most recently he was a supervisor for LMS Trucking. Fritz was an avid bowler, and former little league and girls fast-pitch softball coach for Jefferson Township. He was also a certified umpire, and coached the traveling girls fast-pitch softball team in Upland. He enjoyed his cats, cooking for family and friends, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Survivors include his mother Carol Walz, Upland; two daughters, Katy (Dave Snodgrass) Walz and Kristen Walz, both of Muncie; companion, Julie Yoho, Marion; a step-daughter, Lyndsey Austin, Indianapolis; a sister, Joan Stanley, Upland; a brother-in-law, Mike Howard, Upland; an uncle, Leonard Berryhill, Uncle Don Walz and family, and Uncle Jack Walz and family; four nephews, Brad Downam, Brandon (Annie) Downam, Brandon (Beth) Stanley, and Michael Downam; a niece, Klara Howard; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Walz, Sr., a sister, Donna (Walz) Howard, and an aunt, Sondra Berryhill.
