Temple, Texas – Distinguished Vietnam War Veteran, Freddie Gene McCracken, age 75, passed away, Friday, June 3rd at Baylor Scott & White Hospital-Temple.

On the 15th of August 1946, the late James Lee & Ella (Wood) McCracken welcomed their twin boys, Freddie and Eddie in Belton, Texas. Freddie was a life-long resident of Belton, and brother, Eddie recounts fond memories of the two running round town during their youth. After graduating High School, they enlisted in the United States Army, and served during the Vietnam War. Freddie was a distinguished veteran who served his country proudly, receiving many medals, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Sharpshooter Marksman Badge.

Freddie was an excellent butcher, after retirement he worked at local processing shops, such as Locks Taxidermy and Meat Processing in Rogers, Texas. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter. Freddie could often be found fishing down at Nolan Creek with his beloved black lab, T.J.  But more than anything, he loved spending time with granddaughter, Zara. In later years, Freddie enjoyed going for coffee with friends, they looked out for one another, if one wasn’t there, phone calls were made. They fished every chance they had at the lake, taking the boat or at their favorite honey hole.

Freddie was preceded in death by wife, Thelma Lamb; parents, James Lee & Ella (Wood) McCracken; sister, Margie Cecchine; brother, Boaby McCracken and his black lab, T.J.

Left to cherish his name include his only daughter (but favorite), Jean Scott and husband, James from Kosse, Texas; son, Bucky Lamb and wife, Caasi from Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Zara River Lamb from Austin, Texas; stepson, Bill Caufield from Gatesville, Texas.
