Freda Garlene Cole was born in High Point, N.C. on September 17, 1955 to the late Garland and Patricia Cole. She was raised in High Point and the Florence community and became a member of Turner Chapel AME Church. She attended Florence Elementary School and went on to graduate from Ragsdale High School. Freda continued her education by obtaining a degree in Elementary Education in 1977 from Winston Salem State University where she was truly proud to be a “Ram”!

She relocated to Raleigh N.C. and joined in fellowship with the St. Paul AME Church. After teaching in Wake County and positively impacting the lives of children and everyone that she encountered, Freda decided to pursue and obtain her Administration degree from N.C. Central University. She remained as a principal for the remainder of her career…touching, leading and mentoring others. Freda retired from Wake County in 2012 after 33 years in education.

Freda was known by her family and friends for her sweet voice, words of encouragement and unforgettable laugh. She loved being a part of the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta and travelling with her friends on their girl trips. She was a great Dog Mom to her Maltipoo, Journey.

Leaving to cherish her memories are her brother, Kevin Cole (Michelle) and niece, Inez, of High Point; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved friends who have been by her side throughout decades of friendship.

Psalm 23: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me.
