Fred was born May 1, 1920, in Tyrrell County, North Carolina to Lloyd and Mabel Smith. He was a retired mechanic from Sunbeam Bakery and had lived in Lakeland since 1959.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Ann Smith and second wife, Mary Virginia Smith.
He is survived by his son, James Smith and his wife, Joleane; step-son, Tony Meador; step-daughter, Polly Bowlus; grandchildren, Julia Campbell and Janet Haskell; great grandchildren, Madalyn & Noah Campbell; step-granddaughter and caregiver, Tracy Moore and a host of other step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
