I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said,
I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
Psalms 32:5
Fred A.
Fred, whose parents, three wives, three brothers, and one sister, preceded him in death, peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by family members on August 28,2018, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, NC.
During his lifetime, Fred held several jobs, including car salesman, general furniture manufacturing worker, and member of the golf club crew at the Siler City Country Club, a favorite employment opportunity. There, he learned to play golf. He was a lover of most sports and enjoyed attending and watching car races, baseball, basketball and football games; his pasion, however, was the game of golf which he played until his physical health would no longer permit.
Fred, who, as an adult, grew to love the Lord, was a lifelong member of Gees Grove AME Zion Church where he participated in every aspect of the Lord’s Work. He served as Leader of Leaders, member of the Trustee Board, Steward Board, Male Chorus, and Delegate to District Meetings. When his sight began to fail, he expressed how grateful he was that his granddaughter, Miranda, copied his Sunday School lessons in large print so that he could read without difficulty. His commitment to the Lord was not demonstrated in the Church; it was evidenced when he reached out to people in the greater community to ensure that the necessary resources were available to those in need. He felt that his relationship with the Lord provided the strength needed to carry out other activities.
Fred was an active member of the Prince Hall Light of the World Masonic Lodge 711 for over thirty years and American Legion Post 283 for forty-eight years where he served as Vice Commander. In recent years, he enjoyed membership in the Bojangles Breakfast Group where he gathered with some of his friends to discuss issues of concern to the community, the county, the state, and the Nation.
He is survived by his children Alfred of Greensboro, NC; Audrey (Anthony) of Siler City, NC; Ted (Bonnie) and Ulysses of Goldston, NC; and Camilla of Baltimore, MD; and Linda Lane daughter-in-law; fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren; sisters Dr. Rosa Purcell (Arthur), Maxine Bakeman of Greensboro, NC; Dr.
