Fred Schaefer, also known as “Rocky”, 57, of Cahokia, Ill., born on September 19, 1955, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Fred was known for his sense of humor and always having a joke or a funny story ready. He enjoyed his time riding his motorcycle and participating on dart, washers and bowling leagues.

He worked as an Iron Worker at Central Wire and Iron Works for over 15 years before becoming a Dealer at the Casino Queen. Fred was a people person and could talk and laugh with anyone around. He was a generous person, helping others and always dependable. He would joke and say “I’m not having any kids when I grow up” but in truth he and his wife Shirley raised several children, some related and some who just needed support and love, which was always available from both Rocky and Shirley. Whenever someone would visit, they would usually find him with either a kid or a dog on his lap and sometimes both.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, nee Hendrix, Schaefer and his parents, Henry and Mary, nee Troia, Schaefer. Surviving are his children, Melvin (Shannon) Moore of Farmington, MO.; Patti (Robert) Blake of Branson, MO.; his grandchildren, Stephen (Allison Eads) Moore, Jessica (Michael) Boyer, Amber Moore, Daniel Donaldson, Rebecca, Ashley and Amber Blake; his great grandchildren, Kaden, Jaylynn, and Logan Boyer; his brother, Charles Schaefer, sister, Rosemarie Schaefer, girlfriend Laura Hail and several in-laws, relatives and friends.
