Those left to honor Fred’s memory are his wife, Shawna Smith of Newton; 3 sons, Shawn Stevens, Christian and LJae Smith, all of Newton; his 3 grandchildren, Hannah, Mallory, and Braedyn Stevens; mother, Arless Smith of Newton; his brother, Sid Smith of Newton; 3 nieces, Deena Smith, Amber (Mike) Lovetisnky, and Tara Griffith; 2 nephews, Erik Smith and Mike Wiedemeier; his mother-in-law, Lynda Griffith; father-in-law, Charles Griffith; and his sister-in-law, Shari Kriegel.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Glen Smith; his grandparents; 2 uncles, Stanley Dow and Clarence Dow; and an aunt, Caroline Peterson.
Fred worked at Midwest Manufacturing for 29 years, retiring in 2006.
