Fred Martinez was born in Taft, California on June 26, 1926 to Ruben Martinez and Clara Martinez (LaVigne) and passed August 15, 2017 in Bakersfield, CA. When he was just 17, he joined the navy and proudly served during WWII. After his time in the military, he met and married Betty Ryan. Two years later they had their first son, Steven and, three years later, they had their second son, Gary. They moved to New Cuyama, CA where they lived from 1952-2009. Fred and Betty had a wonderful marriage until her death in April 2016. Fred loved living in the Cuyama Valley, which he considered to be heaven on earth; this might be the one thing Fred and Betty fought about. She would have rather lived somewhere she could shop. Fred retired from Arco in 1985 when he was fifty-nine.
