Fred L. Dansby, a devoted servant of God, passed away on February 21, 2023. He was saved at The Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith. He enjoyed Sunday School and had a strong friendship with his Sunday School teacher, Elder Frankie Morris. He was a musician and played trumpet in the church orchestra.
He was born on September 18, 1927, as the only child to Archie Dansby and Gertrude (Henry) Dansby. He and his late wife Vonzie Lee (Hodges) Dansby were married for over 55 years.
As a child, he and his family relocated to Columbus from Newcomerstown, OH. He spent the rest of his life in Columbus. In his youth, he developed a passion for music and became a talented trumpet player. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Army. He received an honorable discharge in 1948.
After his enlistment, he was hired by General Motors (GM) as a supervisor. He enjoyed talking about his 34-year career at GM, and being one of the very first African Americans hired into a managerial position.
He is survived by two nieces, Jerri Hodges and June Horton; and a host of Cousins, including five first cousins: Dolores (Russell) Nutter, William (Bill) Lee Russell, Terrell Russell, Brenda Dansby, and Alvin West. He was affectionately called “Uncle Fred” and “Uncle Freddy” by all of his cousins.
