Harlan Thompson, 83, of Caldwell, was born February 23, 1927 in Topaz, MO. and died at home December 11, 2010 after a short battle with cancer.
He was the youngest of 2 boys born to Charles and Luella Thompson. He was born and raised in Douglas County. MO. He graduated from Cabool High School in 1944. In 1946 he married his childhood sweetheart, Thelma Johnson and they had 64 wonderful years together. In 1947 they had their first son, Roger Dale. Their second son, Charles Ross, was born in 1948. Harlan worked as a school teacher and owned his own milk truck and school bus while they lived in Missouri. In 1949 the family moved to South Dakota where Harlan worked on a cattle ranch until 1950 when the family moved to Idaho. Harlan continued to work as a farmer in Wilder, ID. In 1952 they had their third son, James Harlan “Chip”. In 1956 he began his career as a truck driver. During his career he drove for Ore-Ida and Ida-Cal and retired from American Fine Foods in 1983. In 1974 they left Wilder and moved to Payette where they stayed until moving to Fruitland in 1982. After an early retirement they enjoyed traveling and camping. Harlan especially loved Lost Lake where he and Thelma were camp hosts for 5 years. In 2004 they moved to Caldwell where he lived until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Luella Thompson; a brother, Harold; an infant son, Charles Ross; son, Roger Dale and great-granddaughter Sage Capps. The loved ones he leaves behind are: his wife, Thelma; sister-in-law, Fern Thompson of MO. ; son Chip (Carol) Thompson; daughter-in-law, Agnes Thompson; grandson, Ryan (Wendi) Thompson; granddaughter, Aimee (Matt) Capps; step grandchildren, Jeff Rose and Patty (Steve) Lemrick; great-grandchildren: Shelbi, Lacey, Brittannie, Chase, Dakota, Rhiannan; step great-grandchildren: Ashley, Courtney, Lindsey, Jake, Josh and 1 great-great-granddaughter Kayli Rae.
