Fred L. Gibson, 86 of Foley, Alabama, formerly of Centralia, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Centralia Manor, Centralia, Illinois. Fred was born on November 24, 1929 in Cooper, Kentucky the son of William Logan Gibson and Flora (Dobbs) Gibson. On January 12, 1950 he married Marilyn Beatty in Centralia and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2014 in Foley, Alabama.

Fred is survived by two sons, Kent Gibson and Brad Gibson both of Foley, Alabama; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Mays and Brittany Bierman both of Centralia, and Kylie Herring and Jacob Gibson both of Foley, Alabama; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Marilyn Gibson. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Gibson; four sisters, Mildred Brown, Juanita Nance, Jean Krouser, Derlie Vincent; four brothers, Paul Gibson, Gayle Gibson, Loren Gibson, and Howard Gibson. Fred was a member of the Foley United Methodist Church in Foley, Alabama. A proud United States Army Veteran. He graduated with his Masters from the University of Illinois.

He was an educator for over 38 years, lastly serving as Principal of Centralia High School from 1968-1992. In 1977 he was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as an Official. He refereed many State Championship games, and numerous NCAA Basketball and Football games. He was a past President of the South Seven Conference. In 2009 he was inducted into the Centralia High School Sports Hall of Fame. Fred was an avid fisherman, enjoying times from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Fred enjoyed his later years living in Foley, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family and his grandchildren.
