Fred Hillyard

Fred B. Hillyard passed away Dec. 11, 2011 at Star Valley Medical Center with his family by his side.

Fred was born May 16, 1951. He was the second son born to Ronald and Edna Mae Bjorkman Hillyard. Fred lived in Afton most of his life.

He played varsity football as a sophomore and was named all-conference, but his career was cut short due to a knee injury.

Fred was a mechanic and enjoyed working for his father’s dealership, B&H Chevrolet. He loved being outdoors. Hunting season was his favorite time of year. He enjoyed boating with his friends and family. He was a boat mechanic for Echo Bay Resort in Overton, Nev. He was a truck driver for Utah Wyoming, Peavlers Mountain Star and Kilroy LLC.

Fred was a member of the Afton Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years. He was a member of the Thayne Roping Club and was a timer for the All American Cutter Racing Association.

Fred had two children Brandie and Dirk, and three grandchildren, Natausha, D.J., and Branden.

Fred enjoyed watching Natuasha on her horse running barrels or poles and DJ and Branden playing football, basketball, and baseball. Fred was always proud of his grandkids and their accomplishments.

In 2008 Fred’s health began to deteriorate. He was in and out of the hospital for the last three years.

Fred was a wonderful brother, father and grandfather. He will be truly missed.

He is survived by his two children: Brandie (Dennis) McDonald, of Afton; and Dirk (Jamie) of Afton; three grandchildren, Natausha Hillyard, DJ Hillyard and Branden McDonald; brother Doug (Loni) Hillyard, of Afton, two sisters, Trish (Kirby) Booth of Afton; and Deanne (Donlee) Jackson, of Thayne.
