Franklin John Glunn II, 84, of Destin Florida passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012.
Frank was born on April 6, 1928, in Berlin Wisconsin, to Franklin and Eloise Glunn. He was raised with two sisters, Yvonne and Mary Ann.
In 1945, at age 17, Frank enlisted in the army. Demonstrating great aptitude and leadership he was recommended for Officer Candidate School. Frank completed OCS and worked his way up the ranks until reaching the rank of Brigadier General.
Frank served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. In Vietnam he commanded a transportation battalion that was responsible for clearing the port of Cam Rahn and convoying ammunition, supplies and 5000 gallon jet-fuel tankers over miles of unsecured roadways to outlying installations. Later he commanded a series of major transportation units in Germany and in the US. During 1974 – 1977 he commanded the MTMC Eastern Area, responsible for all military surface transportation and water port operation from the East Coast to the Rocky Mountains. During the bicentennial celebration he hosted Queen Elizabeth, her party, and the royal yacht HMS Britannia.
Frank and his wife Helen moved to Destin in 1995. There he worked in real estate which allowed him to do what he liked best, interacting with and helping people every day. Frank once said, “Helen keeps asking me when I’m going to retire, but I can’t image anything more dull … how could things be better than they already are now?”. So, not surprisingly, Frank continued to work until his death at age 84.
Frank was very active in several organizations in the Destin area.
Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years Helen, son John and his wife Teresa, son Mark, daughter Carla and her daughters Summer and Lindsey Eatmon, son Randy and his wife Therese and their daughters Taylor and Madison, son Michael and his wife Vikki and their daughter Alexis and son Eric, daughter Barbara and her fiancé Jeff Knott.
