Franklin Delano Hendley was born on December 10, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to the late TJ and Bernice Hendley. After battling a long illness, Frank departed this life on December 27, 2017, in his hometown of Queens, New York.

Frank grew up living in Akron, Ohio and he graduated from Akron High School. He was a practicing Jehovah’s Witness for many years, and while pioneering in 1962, he settled down in Brooklyn, N.Y.

In his early years, Frank was a Disc Jockey and owned and operated several record stores before starting his driving school business. Frank was an outstanding Driving Instructor and the teacher of many of his friends and family members.

Frank had a great love for music, especially Oldies but Goodies. He had an extensive collection of vinyl records and if you asked him any question relating to oldies music, Frank always knew the answer. In later years, he went into the business of selling cassette’s and CD’s, and was known as the “Tape Man” to his large clientele.

With his immaculate style of dressing Frank was always sharp. He took pride in his hair and there was never one out of place.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Francis and Katie Hendley; brother Henry Hendley; and half-brother Louis Hendley. He is survived by sister Beatrice Owens-OH; and brother Tommy “Lance” Hendley-CA; and from his first marriage to Arleathia J. Hendley, four children; Renee, Brian and Shanna Hendley-NY, and Dwane Hendley-AL; daughters Dahlia and Shelly Rodgers-NY; and from his wife Gloria Sharpe-Hendley; step-daughter Linda Walker-NY; step-son’s Herman Nelson–IL, Thomas and Woodrow Sharpe-NY; and step-grandson Kyle Torrain-NY; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
