Frank Carl Sligh was born at Peralta Hospital Oakland, August 9, 1948 and passed away June 30, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen Evart Sligh and June Mary Sligh, and his older brother David Allen Sligh.
Frank attended Porter School and graduated Alameda High in 1966. He was a member of the school band, and performed in a seven member band, The Islanders, playing local yacht clubs and other social functions. Frank played the clarinet and saxophone. Frank worked several jobs while attending high school: Park Dairy, Gormans Texaco, and Tuckers. He studied chemistry and physics at Cal State Hayward 1967-1969.
In 1966, Frank flight trained at Oakland Aviation and earned his VFR Private Pilots License. In his hobby of six years he flew Cessna, Mooney, Citabria and American Aviation aircraft.
Frank has a son Gregory Allen Sligh (Wenilda) and a daughter Amy Christine Sligh-Sifuentes (Felix); three grandchildren: Samantha, Chelsea and Adam; and two step-grandchildren: Alexandra and Cecilia.
Frank became a member of IBEW Local 595 as an apprentice in Feb. 1969 and completed his apprenticeship in February 1973. He worked as an electrician for such companies as Pacific Coast Engineering, Garrity Electric, California Electric, Clifford Electric, DelMonte Electric, Newberry Electric and D&J Electric. His favorite project was his role as superintendent during the construction of Alameda Hospital for two and a half years.
In July 1984, Frank obtained his California C10 Electrical License under his company name of Pacific Bay Electric. He and his son Greg worked together until Frank retired in 2015, at which time his son took over their business. Frank began a woodworking hobby which allowed his skills and creativity to take shape in the form of hand-crafted furniture and other wood creations he shared with family and friends. Frank always made time to help those in need and was a friend to all. He was generous and kind and shared his immense sense of humor freely.
Frank married his wife Debra Ann Weiss in June 1994 and they just celebrated their 27th year anniversary. Together they rode motorcycles, boated and fished, enjoyed camping and hiking, and frequent family get-togethers. They vacationed and traveled extensively through Europe and into Africa. They took annual salmon fishing charters in Sitka, Alaska and made many wonderful friends during their adventures, whose love and support during this time is cherished.
The tragic and dreadful illness that has taken Frank from us all too soon and ended his extraordinary life has another side to its story. There is an often forgotten or overlooked effect that is in fact a gift. In our journey to fight this and gain control of Frank’s health, we have had the opportunity to meet so many incredibly giving, kind and caring people, offering every type of support for us that was possible. We thank all of the Kaiser Permanente care team of doctors and staff, Crossroads Hospice Care, 24hr Home Care, Alameda Fire Station No.1, Marina Landing Family Dentistry, the many care therapists, equipment and medicine delivery staff, and so many others. For each and every one of these folks, we are forever grateful. They made our lives manageable and gave us hope, treating us with love and respect, well beyond our imagined expectations. We thank them all so very much.
