Frank Nekvasil, 61, of Three Oaks, Michigan died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, November 11, 2014 at his home.Frank was born August 8, 1953 in Niles, Michigan to James and Hilda (Slocum) Nekvasil. He grew up in Galien and graduated from Galien High School. Frank worked as a Dispatcher for the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office in St. Joseph, Michigan while taking classes at Lake Michigan College.

It was while employed at the Sheriff’s office that he met Janet Treder who worked at the court house. They were married on February 17, 1973 in St. Joseph, Michigan. Frank earned his degree, with honors, in Law Enforcement and began working as a patrolman for Three Oaks. It was not long after that he became the Police Chief for the Village of Three Oaks. Chief Nekvasil served the Village faithfully for 40 years.

Although a private man, Frank was a good steward of his community. He especially loved the children, filling in as crossing guard for the elementary school, and for many years was the perfect Santa for the bank in Three Oaks. He enjoyed remodeling his home and the oak woodwork he installed throughout the house. He liked riding his bike and quiet time, playing Solitaire on his computer. Frank was a member of the Olive Branch United Methodist Church in Galien and a member of the Police Chief’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Janet, sister Shirley Knight of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, brother James Nekvasil of Niles, Michigan, nieces and nephews and his little dog Shadow.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Johnny.
