Chief Master Sergeant Frank Luciani, United States Air Force, Retired, passed away at the age of 85 on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 13th, 2017, at Morningstar Senior Living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His passing followed a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and a recent debilitating cerebral stroke.
Frank was born on January 23rd, 1932, to Loretta (Savasta) and Frank Luciani. A Brooklynite to the core, he grew up there, grudgingly forgave the Dodgers’ move to Los Angeles, and joined the Air Force from there in 1951. Following a tour in Korea, Frank met and married his wife of 62 years, Virginia, on St. Valentine’s Day in 1953. They were together until here passing in 2015. Their oldest daughter, Patricia Vitelli, was born in Aberdeen, Maryland in 1954; and their youngest, Connie, was born in Kansas City in 1956. They travelled the country throughout the remainder of Frank’s career, settling in Colorado in 1960. Aside from a short tour in Florida and Frank’s tour in Viet Nam, where he earned a Bronze Star medal, Colorado Springs remained the family home until Frank retired from the Air Force in 1980. Frank then joined Ent Federal Credit Union as their personnel manager, retiring from that position in 1990.
In addition to his daughters, Frank is survived by three grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews of multiple generations. Frank was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes (Luciani) Carias.
