Frank Lippolis died peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Vermont. He was born in Long Island City, New York on November 2, 1920, the son of John and Mamie (Simone) Lippolis. He was educated in South Norwalk and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1938. He played football with the Spring Hill Tigers and was honored at the Norwalk Old Timers’ sports award dinner in 1985 as “pound for pound, one of the city’s all-time top football guards”. Frank married the love of his life, Vera Jermoluk, on October 17, 1941, and was deeply saddened when Vera died on August 3, 2002. Frank served in the US Army 1252nd Engineers Combat Battalion of Patton’s Third Army building bridges and roads. He led his squad bravely as they participated in the Battle of the Bulge campaign. Frank returned to work at the Sterling Furniture Company in South Norwalk, retiring after 50 years, built a home in Westport, and treasured the time he spent with family and friends. He was treasurer of the Columbus Memorial Scholarship Fund for many years. He enjoyed bowling, golf, mini-golf with Katy and Jen, and even learned to ski at 55 years old.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Ann Sullivan, of Williston, Vermont; two granddaughters, Kathryn Brindisi, and her husband, Jon, of New Canaan, and Jennifer Prada, and her husband, Julian, of New York City; four great grandchildren, Sara and Cole Brindisi and Sonia and Gavin Prada; two sisters, Judith Calandrelli, and her husband, John, of Fairfield, and Pauline Richmond of Agawam, Massachusetts; and many devoted nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his son, Frank Jr, who died in infancy; his sister, Marie Lippolis Drew; his brothers-in-law, LeRoy Drew and Charles Richmond.
