Frank Louis Nelson, 73, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly at Elkhart General Hospital on Friday, Jan. 17.
He was born April 13, 1940, the son of Joseph and Hazel (Foster) Nelson in Worcester, Mass.
Frank entered the U.S. Army in 1964 and proudly served his country for more than 20 years. He reached the rank of Sergeant First Class while serving tours in Vietnam, Germany and several locations in the U.S. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time camping, fishing and puttering around the house.
In 2003, Frank relocated from Massachusetts to Elkhart where he would soon meet his future wife, Darlene “Suzy” Calvo. They were married May 22, 2005, and enjoyed 11 wonderful and eventful years together.
Frank is survived — and will be greatly missed by — his wife, Darlene; son Scott (Robin) Nelson of Holden, Mass.; stepsons Troy (Tracey) Stutsman and Micah Calvo, both of Elkhart; stepdaughter Camille Buss of Osceola; three sisters, Nancy Dunn of Massachucetts, Arlene Leighton of Elkhart and Elizabeth Plante of Virginia; brother Kenny (Lena) Marble of Elkhart; one step-grandson; three step-granddaughters; two great-step-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Nelson and a sister, Eleanor Fontaine.
