Frank J. Kennett, age 77 of Gladwin, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at his home. He was born July 10, 1937 in Alma to the late Harry and Audrey (Veder) Kennett. Frank was raised at Crystal Lake and joined the U.S. Marine Corp when he was 17. He served as a sergeant stationed at the 29 Palms.

Frank owned and operated Frank’s Standard Service Station in Bay City from 1962 – 1972. He then became one of the first auto mechanic instructors at the Bay-Arenac Skill Center. He continued his education, earning 130 credits towards a degree. Frank loved sharing his expertise with his students until he retired in 1987. After he retired, he and Kay enjoyed creating crafts and traveling to art fairs.

Frank enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a very proud man and marine; tough as nails, including the one in his knee. He loved to hunt, fish, bowl, take care of his yard, travel to speed skating meets and collect coins. He built and owned one of the first pontoon boats on Secord Lake. He was known as “the fix it man” and was the neighborhood hardware store. Frank loved to help others and his love was unconditional.

Frank is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Kay F. Winslow, whom he married on May 29, 1959 in Midland; daughter Kellie (Mark) Seward of Pinconning; brother John (Myrna) Kennett of Alma; sister in law Ann Dehn of Midland; brothers in law David (Mary) Winslow of Midland, Dallas (Cathy Compton) Winslow of Midland, Douglas (Helen) Winslow of Midland, Dean (Mary) Winslow of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Lynn (Maureen) Winslow of Lansing, Bruce (Susan) Winslow of Midland; Wayne (Cindy) Winslow of Midland; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and one very special niece, Claire Winslow. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Kaleen Kennett; sister Joan Pollack; mother in law Rachel Kearns Winslow and father in law Willard Winslow; brother in law Bill Dehn; twin niece and nephew babies of Bruce (Sue) Winslow.
