Frank Haymond “Jake” Sutherland, 84, of Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly due to a fall on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital with his wife Mary Kay, daughter Terry and her husband Bob and his nephew Doyle Sutherland at his side.

Jake was born December 27, 1930 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Charles and Mildred Haymond Sutherland.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Catherine Rocovich Sutherland; one daughter, Terry Hartley and her husband Bob of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews including Doyle Sutherland, Will Coffey, Mary Coffey, Martha Mueller, Amanda Moore, Adam Sutherland, Angela Agan, Austin Sutherland, Mary Hice, Sarah Gurtis, Tim Gurtis, Susan Kearby, Charlie Gurtis, Ann Gurtis, Andrew Gurtis, Matthew Gurtis, Paula Roy, Billy Rocovich, Lisa Kinght, and Ronald Rocovich; a sister-in-law, Missy Rocovich; and his extended family Tom and Betty Kelley, Sandy and Teresa Twigg and Maxwell Phillips Hartley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Sutherland and Michael Sutherland; one sister, Sally Gurtis and her husband Joe; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Rocovich and George Rocovich.

Jake was a graduate of St. Francis High School and served in the United States Army. He was employed by the former Sterling Faucet Company for 40 years as a truck driver.

He was a long-time member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City, and was very active in helping with St. Ursula’s Food Pantry and anyone else whoever needed his help.

Jake loved animals. All the dogs in his neighborhood would always stop by for a treat and a pat on the head. He even went as far as to keep different size treats for each of the dogs – knowing exactly which treats went to each dog.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Ruby Memorial Hospital’s MICU and 8NE for the kind and loving care that he received there.

In a final act of generosity, Jake donated his body to the Human Gift Registry at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Family and friends may gather at St.
