Frank Fitz, age 82, passed away at his Poway home surrounded by family on October 27, 2020 from complications of cancer. He is survived by his bride of 55 years, Jackie, as well as his daughters, Sherry Fitz and Peggy D’Angelo, son-in-law Stephen D’Angelo, and grandson Brendan.
He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 10, 1938 then moved to Dallas, Texas. After serving in the U.S. Army for 3 years, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at SMU in Dallas. It was at this time that he met and married the love of his life, Jackie. They raised their two girls first in Graham, Texas then San Jose, California in the 70’s where he was part of the burgeoning computer industry in Silicon Valley before moving to Poway. Shifting to the automotive industry for the final phase of his career merged his personal passion for cars with his love of engineering.
A resident of Poway for 39 years, he was a familiar sight to the neighbors as he daily walked his dog. He deeply appreciated the local color that characterized our “city in the country” that made him smile each day – alpaca, donkeys, horses, the multitude of dogs, chickens, goats, a peacock or two and even the coyotes. His final decade was spent learning to cook, snorkeling in Hawaii, listening to his grandson master the saxophone, and deepening his knowledge of cameras and photography. He was a devoted husband and father, cherishing each day he had with his family.
His quiet warmth, wisdom and willingness to help will be missed deeply by all who knew him. We know he is waiting patiently for us in Heaven with his Savior.
