Frank E. Bowman Jr., 87, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Elkhart General Hospital following an extended illness.
Frank was born July 11, 1928, in Tucson, Ariz., to the late Frank and Madeline (Nye) Bowman Sr.
He married Judith A. (Reynolds) Gordy on July 19, 1969, in Elkhart. Surviving are his wife, Judith; children Teri (Fred) Friedauer, Deb (Vince) Spirito of Elkhart, Rick (Sandra) Gordy of Charlotte, N.C., Dan (Debbie) Gordy of Athens, Ga., and Jeff (Sheila) Gordy of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with another two on the way; and sisters Marlene Couse of Nappanee and Gloria Wright of Elkhart.
A daughter, Darla Housour, preceded Frank in death.
Frank was a police officer and detective with the Elkhart Police Department for 12 years from 1952 until 1964. He then worked in the RV and mobile home industry as a sales manager and retired from Fairmont Homes. He and Judith were the former owners of Beck’s Shoes at Easy Shopping Place. Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was an avid golfer and a life member of the Elkhart Elks Lodge No. 425 and Four Lakes Country Club. He was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, as well as Notre Dame.
Frank’s most special times were spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
