Francisco Covarrubias Rivera age 87 was born on June 04, 1927 in Tecolotlan, Mexico and passed away after a courages short battle of cancer on February 01, 2014 with his family by his side.
Francisco was the oldest child of 7 siblings. He attended school up to second grade and went to work to help out his family. Although he had limited schooling he learned to read and write in Spanish and English.
At the age of 19, Francisco came to California to work through the Bracero Program and was a lifetime agricultural worker. Francisco was a very loving and loving soft-spoken man.
He was a member of the Grupo Latino (Alcoholic Anonymous) of Oxnard for over 30 years and was known as a Padrino (Godfather) to many. His real passion was sharing the story of his struggles with alcoholism to ultimate help out people who struggle with alcoholism just as he once did.
Francisco was a man of many talents. He loved cooking, planting and harvesting corn and traveling. It was rare to catch him without a camera because he took it with him wherever he was. He loved to photograph and video tape all family events. Francisco is known for making his one of a kind delicious birria(meat stew) that no one ever wanted to miss out on.
Francisco is survived by his wife Elena, sons Francisco and Daniel Rivera, daughters, Charlene Gomez (Joe), Margaret Almeida, Bertha Rivera(Elias), Lydia Rivera (Lupe), Julie Moreno (Jose), Lisa Garcia (Armando), Bonnie Green (James), Patty Rivera(Juan), Star Moreno (Eddie), brothers, Porfirio, Aurelio, sisters, Petra, Margarita and Isabel; grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margarita Covarrubias, his father Antonio Covarrubias, ex-wife Dora Rivera and extended relatives in Mexico. He will be missed by many relatives and friends and forever be in our hearts.
