On Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Francis Sylvester Jones while resting peacefully at home transitioned into everlasting life.

  Francis Sylvester Jones (Sil) was born in Washington DC on September 8, 1929 to the late Richard and Clara Jones. Sil was the 6th child of 10 children from this union. He was educated in the District of Columbia public school system.  In 1948, Sil enlisted in the Navy where he found interest in amateur boxing and served his country proudly in the Korean War. While serving his country, he married former wife Sarah. From this union they had 3 sons (Paul, Wilbert, and Francis).  In 1952, Sil was honorably discharged from the Navy and then served 3 years in the National Guard. He then established his career in the Federal Government working for National Institute of Health and working part time for the Montgomery County School Board System. While working at NIH, he met and married Lenora Browning at which they were united for fifty years. From this union they had one daughter, Alayna Alston.

Sil was a dedicated hard worker and provider.

Sil was raised a Catholic and truly had faith in the God. He used to watch Frederick K. Price religiously. He recently stated, “I lived a good life, God has been good to me”. I want to enjoy the rest of my life that God has for me.” On December 2, 1997, Sil rededicated his life to Christ.

Sil was preceded in death by his son, Francis S Jones Jr.; his granddaughter, Sunday; 4 sisters – Leonia, Delores, Clara and Patricia; and 4 brothers – Richard, Wilbert, James and George. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty years, Lenora Jones; his 2 sons – Wilbert (Lenore) and Paul; only daughter – Alayna Alston and 1 sister – Mary Hedgman. He also leaves to carry on his memory 11 grandchildren – Garnell, Francis III, Jerome, Paul, Kevin, Jermaine, Justin, Byron, Shara, Yahnette, Antwanette and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and acquaintances.
