 FRANCIS L. JUNK

     Francis Leo Junk, son of Thomas Junk and Anna Mary (Krier) Junk was born near Downs, KS on March 10, 1924. He was the seventh of thirteen children. Francis spent his early years on the family farm in Kansas.
He was inducted into the Army in August of 1945, at Ft. Leavenworth, KS and served in the Coast Artillery Corps Detachment, 1802d Special Regiment USMA at West Point, NY until November 1946. After his discharge, he lived and worked in Idaho Falls, ID for a short time before moving to Denver, CO.

     In 1949, Francis met Shirley Alice Ranke through a co-worker, Shirley’s brother Jim Ranke. He courted Shirley for about a year and on his birthday in 1950 he proposed and she accepted.

     Shortly thereafter they began their family with the birth of twin daughters; Pamala and Patricia, followed by Theresa, Rita, Charles, twin sons Daniel and David, Joseph, Jane, Maria and finally Virginia. The family continued to grow and change through the years. Upon his death, Francis could claim that he was the grandfather to 32 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 19 great-grandchildren.

     Francis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley A. Junk; his grandson Jeffrey Francis Kirk; and sons-in-law Mike Johnson and Anthony “Brad” Winters. His parents Thomas and Anna Junk; his siblings Joseph Junk, Carl Junk, Thomas Junk, Edward Junk, Anna Braun, Lucille Riedel, Virginia Neglia, Helena Crow and Margaret Graden;.
He is survived by his children Pamala & Mark Zwickl, Patricia & Ray Congleton, Theresa Winters, Rita Johnson, Charles & Debbie Junk, Dan & Charleen Junk, Dave & Carolyn Junk, Joe & Cece Junk, Jane Duff, Maria Kirk and Virginia Junk.
