Francis J. (Fritz) Herber, 85 Roanoke, IN, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. Francis was born October 3, 1926 in Fort Wayne, IN to Fred and Anna Schmidt Herber. His parents preceded him in death. He married Eileen Landstoffer on September 18, 1954. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1992. Mr. Herber was a 1944 graduate of Central Catholic High School.
Francis graduated from St Joseph College, Rensselaer, IN in 1948. He later received an Engineering Degree from Indiana Tech and his Master’s Degree in Chemistry and Physics from Ball State University with a teaching certificate. He was a Professor at Tri State College and in later years taught Chemistry, Physics and Math at Bishop Dwenger High School prior to his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Herber was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, IN. He held membership in the American Chemical Society, and American Legion Post #82, Goshen Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Survivors include five sons: David A. and his wife Betty Herber, Lancaster, IN; Steven F. and his wife Cathy Herber, Roanoke, IN; Thomas G. and his wife Becky Herber, Roanoke, IN; Daniel J. and his wife Kellie Herber, Huntington, IN and Patrick J. and his wife Joanna Herber, Ft.Wayne, IN, two sisters: Agnes Bauermeister, Fort Wayne, IN and Esther (Babe) and her husband Dick Feipel, Fort Wayne, IN, fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his friend Ruby Funderburg. Preceding Mr. Herber in death besides his parents and wife were two sisters; Mary Ann Stanley and Rita Sohaski.
