Francis “Fran” Hugh Carberry was born in Sharon, CT on May 6, 1930 and passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 2, 2014 in Banning, CA. He was the eleventh of thirteen children born to Joseph and Lena Carberry. At age 21 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Boom Operator refueling military aircraft at high altitudes.
After being honorably discharged, Fran with his wife Dorothy, who he met on a blind date in 1952 started a family and moved to Azusa, Ca. They lived there for 46 years before relocating to Banning in 2001.
Fran’s gentleness and kindness for others was reflected through all aspects of his life. First and foremost he was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. He cherished his family as they did him.
Fran enjoyed volunteering for community events especially the Azusa Golden Days Parade. He was a Brother of Aerie #2810 Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 40 years as well as a member of the Kiwanas International, both organizations dedicated to the medical and educational needs of children.
He gave unselfishly of himself never looking for accolades. He was a soft-spoken, gentle giant who will be in our hearts forever.
Fran is survived by the love of his life for the last 61 years, his wife Dorothy, his son Ron (MovaLee), his daughter Roberta (Bill), 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters,
3 brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
