Francis E. Zipfel, age 91, of Salem and Pittsburgh, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his home in Salem. He was born January 30, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late John and Mary (Dedig) Zipfel.
Francis had been employed at Baldwin Whithall School District in the maintenance department for 15 years and had previously worked at Duquesene Brewery for 33 years. He was a member of the St. Wendelin Church in Pittsburgh and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
His wife, Irene (Tucholski) Zipfel preceded him in death November 30, 2013. A daughter, Francine Matuscak; two brothers; and two sisters also preceded in death.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Terrence Zipfel M.D. of Salem; a son-in-law Dr. Timothy Matuscak of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren, Jillian, Jordan and Jason Zipfel.
