Frances M. Zachary, 95, passed away peaceably on Tuesday at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville, where she had made her home for the past six years.

Frances was born to Morris I. and Gladys Myers Allen. She attended Crawfordsville High School.

Frances married Kenneth Zachary on May 29, 1938. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1997. She and her husband opened a grocery store, Ken’s Market, on Darlington Avenue in 1950. They were in the grocery business until 1963 when it became Ken’s Liquor Store.

Frances worked many hours in the grocery, liquor store and retired in 1973. She was an avid player of Euchre and took it seriously. If you played with her, you knew she was in it to win. She also loved to play Bingo and had more than her share of winning at this game.

Frances was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, known as Gee-Gee. She loved to cook meals for everyone and was famous for her beef and homemade noodles and pies. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice, Son in law Ronald Surber; grandson Gregory K. Surber (Mike Creasy) of Houston, TX; Grandson, Michael (Lesa) Ray Surber of Braselton, GA; Granddaughter Janna Kay (Jeff) Gilstrap of Crawfordsville; great grandson Ty Alan Gilstrap and great granddaughter Jordan Kay Gilstrap of Crawfordsville; Great grandson Jeffrey Braden Surber of Braselton, GA; and a nephew Fred Stewart of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Jeffrey A. Surber, her sister Thelma Anderson and her Brother Richard I. Allen.
