Frances L Burke, 93, of Anderson, passed away on February 4th, at St. Vincent’s Regional Hospital of Anderson. She was born on January 23, 1920, in Anderson, and resided most of her life in Anderson. She was a professional singer in the early 1940’s under the name of Dixie Collins.
She was co-owner of the Cozy Cafeteria in Alexandria, a farmer’s wife. In the 1950’s, she sold chrome smoking stands. She went to Beautician School and owned her own Beauty Shop on 2219 Sheridan St. She did manicures in Hawaii for three months. She then went to Realty School and passed her test the first time.
She worked for Blackwell & Wiley, Sterling Development, Bird Strange Reality, and Tom Holloway Realty. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Board of Realtors, and Anderson Business Women.
She loved to fish, play games, bowl, sing, dance, play pool, horseshoes, and yard jars. In the early 1940’s she recorded a song and had written several songs which were recorded by other artists. She was the Loyalty Day Queen for the VFW.
Frances is survived by her, son, Richard L. Collins of New Port Richey, FL, daughter, Karen S. Frank Perkins of Perkinsville, IN, son, Joe R. Sharon Busby of Anderson. Grandchildren, Li An Darvin Boatwright, Christy Herman Kraines, Marcus Collins, Jeanie Michele Leons, Jennifer Kelly Partington, Deborah Vail, Joseph Busby, Isaac Arielle Busby, and Sarah Jason Smith. 12 Great Grandchildren, 8 Great-Great Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews survive. Special nieces Judy Roof, Carolyn Merrill, and special nephew Jack Rensel. Also, a special friend, Troy Walls, and a special caregiver, Susan Nicholls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and two brothers.
