Frances “Fran” Irene Schultz, 84, of Newton died on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center.
Fran, the daughter of F.D. and Elva (Greene) Halferty, was born on November 11, 1937 in Chariton. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1956. Following graduation, she attended Ottawa University and then graduated from Central College. Fran was united in marriage with Ken Schultz on August 17, 1958 in Chariton. They made their home in Newton. Fran taught Kindergarten for two years in the Newton and Grinnell school districts, before continuing to sub for many years. Later, Fran would work as the Administrative Assistant for the Transportation Department at the Newton Community Schools, retiring in 2013.
Fran is survived by her husband, Ken Schultz of Newton; children, Lori Gardner of Carlisle and Mark (Desiree) Schultz of Peyton, Colorado; grandchildren, Krysta (Ian) Stenzel, Jordan (Katie) Schultz, Kolburt (Kellie) Schultz, Hannah (Isaac) Wiggers, Kendyll (Chris) Woods, and Micah Schultz; her great-grandchildren, Aabrielle, Randy, Zara, Charles, Reagan, Anderson, Jackson, Hudson, McCoy, and Oliver; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Davida Harvey and Lois Stone; and brother, Alvin Halferty.
