Frances Estelle Brown, born September 18, 1944, departed this life peacefully on April 4, 2023 at Aspenwood Assisted Living Community located in Silver Spring, Md. She was preceded in death by her parents James Calvin Terry and Thelma Beatrice Terry and her youngest sister Denise Ellen Terry.
Frances (aka Fran) grew up in Richmond, Va and attended Maggie L. Walker home of the Mighty Green Dragons. Frances accepted the call to discipleship as a young lady at Riverview Baptist Church where she began her Christian walk. She was baptized on June 23, 1957 at age 12.
After high school, her first job as a secretary was at the International Mission Board in Richmond.
Soon after, Fran moved to Washington, D. C. where she married and had 2 children, Clifford and Tami. In the DC area she held various administrative positions and project management roles at both government agencies and private companies, including Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), IBM, Discovery Channel and B L Seamon.
Fran joined Mt Calvary Baptist Church in Rockville, Md, where she remained a faithful member for over 40 years until her death. On January 26, 1992, she became Deacon Frances Brown. Frances thrived in her role as a deacon and lived a life of service—- fulfilling many ministry roles. Fran was a woman of prayer. Through her life experiences, joys and sorrows, disappointments and triumphs, she learned to trust in Jesus and depend on His Word.
At Mt Calvary, she gained lifelong friends and to the end she loved and appreciated each of them.
She moved to Damascus, Md in 1981 where she enjoyed living until her illness in 2022 prevented her from living alone.
To her family, she is referred to as Ma or Nana. She is survived by; her middle sister Christine (Chris) Erickson and treasured brother-in-law William Erickson; 1 aunt and uncle Viola and Benjamin Sally, Sr.; her son Clifford D. Brown; her daughter Tami M. Brown-Nworisa; her supportive former husband and friend James C. Brown; 4 grandchildren Joshua Brown, Iman Nworisa, Basiru George, Jason Brown and 2 great grandchildren Jeremiah Brown and Ezekiel Nworisa; multiple cousins; a host of relatives, her Mt Calvary church family, co-workers and other friends.
We will all cherish many fond memories of her and are thankful for the insights and wisdom that she shared.
