Frances E. Mitchell, age 93, formerly of Shannon, passed away on January 1, 2017, in Freeport. She was born on October 6, 1923, the daughter of Frank Wehinger and Ella (Rehberger) Wehinger in rural South Wayne, Wisconsin.  Growing up in rural South Wayne, Frances attended the nursing program at St. Francis Hospital in Freeport, where she became a Registered Nurse in 1945. Soon after, she married Dr. Edward P. Mitchell. She spent most of her life residing in Shannon where Dr. Mitchell was the community physician.

Frances and Dr. Mitchell raised two sons. Ed, the older, resides in Lanark with his wife Kathy and their two children. Son John lives in Shannon.

Her grandchildren, Claire Mitchell, and Liam Mitchell were a great source of joy for Frances, and she always delighted in their company on holidays and during family visits. Frances resided the last eight years in Provena Nursing Home in Freeport, and the visits from Claire, Liam and other family regularly brightened her days.

Surviving her are her sons Ed and John, grandchildren Claire and Liam, as well as her brother Constant Wehinger, and sisters Odelia Nafzger, Mathilda Swanson, LuAnn Krahenbuhl, and Carol Seffrood, all of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Carl, and sisters Marion and Josephine.

Frances enjoyed several trips with her family to Europe, the Caribbean, and various locations in the United States. In her last years, she took pleasure from rides through the local countryside in her Buick.
