Frances E. Barboza-Clark passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 1938 at Home. She was 83.
She was the Granddaughter of the late Portuguese Whaleman, John Domingo Lopes, who was a Chief Mate on the only surviving American wooden sailing whaleship the “Charles W. Morgan,” which is the star attraction at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut.
Born in Jersey City, NJ she lived in Highland Park, NJ since 1981. Before retiring in 2000 she was employed as the manager of the Vivarium Dept @ UMDNJ-RWJ medical school in Piscataway, NJ. She was a member of several professional organizations. In 1983, she was a published in “Who’s Who of America Women.” A lifelong Feminist she served into the 1980’s, as the President of the Middlesex County NOW (National Organization for Women) Charter. Then was elected a member of the National Board of Directors, representing the Mid-Atlantic Region in the 1980’s. She was a delegate to the 1984 Democratic National Convention held in San Francisco when Geraldine Ferraro was nominated as the first women Vice Presidential candidate. A member of The Reformed Church of Highland Park and was active chorus member.
She was predeceased by her son Donald Clark. Her parents Lawrence Barboza and Clementina Frances Lynch and her step father Dudley Lynch. There were Three Brothers, Two Sisters and two sisters-in-laws.
She is survived by Daughter Renee Clark, Son Edward Clark of Highland Park, NJ. Her sister Edith Clark, Sister-in law Joan Barboza, her “Granddaughter” Alexia Franco and a host of Relatives & Friends and her beloved dog Missy.
