Mr. Floyd Harkey, age 88, went to his heavenly home on January 10, 2015. He passed away due to complications of pneumonia. He was born in Union County NC, on September 21, 1926, and was one of nine children of the late Harley Harkey and Carrie Harkey. Mr. Harkey was a US Army veteran who served in World War ll. He was a member of the VFW Unit 2423 in Indian Trail. Riding in the July 4th parade and representing his country was something that he enjoyed. He was employed by Bouligny Machine Shop and Zegora Machine Shop in Charlotte where he was a quality control technician. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe.

He loved building country crafted furniture, collecting coins and stamps, and vintage toys and books. Gardening and watching his vegetables grow was his joy. He was an avid reader who liked to share stories with those he met. Mr. Harkey was a historian who researched his heritage. He was so excited to learn about the people who came before him. He loved his family and his friends at Carillon Assisted living where he resided for the past year.

Mr. Harkey is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Harkey. He is also preceded by all his brothers and sisters. They are Franklin Smith Harkey, Bertha Mae Hyatt Head, Ruby Lee McCoy, William Albert Harkey, Kathleen Allifare Helms, Olin Harkey, and Johnnie Aline Gregory, and Loma Bell Simpson.
Mr. Harkey is survived by his two daughters, Joyce Price and husband, Sharon Price of Waxhaw, NC, and Wanda Pearson of Oak Island NC. He was the proud grandfather of 4 granddaughters and 10 great grandchildren. No one could have been a better dad or pawpaw.
