Mr. Floyd Hopson peacefully passed away at a local hospital in San Diego.
FLOYD LEE HOPSON was born July 27, 1943 in Meridian, Mississippi. He was the younger of two sons born to Hattie and Nate Hopson. He was raised in Meridian and received his formal education in the public school system, graduating high school.
Floyd enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1968.
Floyd met and was married to Rebecca L. Davis in Meridian. They moved to San Diego, California and made it their permanent home. Floyd continued his education attending college for two years. He was an ambitious young man and started his employment at San Diego Gas and Electric Company before entering the shipyard industry. He was employed by Pepper, Inc. and later as a member of the office staff for Commercial Cleaning, Inc.
In 1978, Floyd found his true calling in life when he started his own business, Pohop’s, a roofing contracting firm which he operated for over twenty years.
Floyd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, relative and friend. He enjoyed shooting pool and won several awards for his skills. He also enjoyed sports most especially watching football and his favorite team, the San Diego Chargers.
Floyd was an inspiration and mentor to many young men in the roofing industry and in the community, most especially his own family. He worked hard and set an example of the rewards that come from commitment, hard work and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Floyd Lee Hopson departed this life on March 3, 2013 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca L. Hopson; six children, Mary Cook, Tina Glover, Felicia Harris, Shannon Hopson, Corey Holiday and Channelle Hopson; brother, Jimmy Hopson; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
