Floyd E. Miller Sr., 84, of Granger, died at 7:23 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 25, 2010) in his home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Middlebury to Leroy E. and Iva (Hostetler) Miller. On Aug. 23, 1951, he married Maria A. “Ria” Pfeiffer in Kitzingen, Germany.

She survives along with two sons, Floyd E. Miller Jr. of Osceola and Gerald M. Miller of China; one daughter, Lorie (Greg) Hinshaw of Glencoe, Ill.; three grandchildren; and five sisters, Ilo Schuetz of Lovington, Ill., Olive Snyder of Branch, Mich., Velma Kensinger and Charlene Bloom, both of Elkhart, and Marilyn “Peg” (Ted) Ziegert of Villa Rica, Ga.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings, Gerald, Lavon and Robert Miller, Don Stump, Erma Hisey, Frances Kirby, Fern Tomaszewki and Lucille Grabill.

Mr. Miller was a machinist at Taylor Products and Square Deal, both of Elkhart. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, Bristol American Legion Post 143 and VFW Post 88, Elkhart. He graduated from Bristol High School, enjoyed gardening, building bird feeders and watching birds. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football.

Mr. Miller was a sergeant in the U.S. Army who served in Germany during World War II.
