Florencio G. Ybarra Jr. “Sam” 85, of Keenesburg, Colorado, passed away at his home on Friday, May 8, 2015. Sam was the third of six children born to Donaciana and Florencio Ybarra Sr. in Sabinal, Texas where he grew up.

He married Estela Cruz in 1955 and moved to the Prospect/Keenesburg area in 1960. He was a farmhand for several years for some of Keenesburg’s well-known farmers like Fred Trupp, Ed Stremel, LeRoy Sigwardt, Johnny & Kenny Zimbleman and Jim Serious.

In 1973 he made a career change and began working for the school district as a custodian. He adored all those kids, and couldn’t have asked for a more rewarding job. He retired from there in 1993.

After retiring his spent a lot of time fishing and strolling through the flea market on a nice day, as well as riding the 3 wheeled bicycle that was given to him by a very good friend whom he adored. That bike became his signature and you would see him several times a day riding all over town. We were so blessed to have him as our dad.

He was preceded in death by his wife Estela. He is survived by daughters, Irma Estrada of Lakewood, Barbara Conner(Richard)of Dacono, Rachel Ybarra (Tammy) of Hardin, Montana and Marah Ybarra of Brighton and sons, Florencio III (Angie) of Venango, Ne., Sammy (Wilda) of Poteau, Ok., and Jacob (Melanie) of Rineyville, Kentucky, as well as several grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren. His older brother Trinidad, who resides in Denver and younger sister Agripina residing in Fort Morgan along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who were very dear to him also in the area.
