Florence Nora Brown, 80, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Northview Health and Living. She was born on January 7, 1940, in Ingalls, Indiana, the daughter of William George and Martha Irene (Rector) Brown.

Florence had four siblings who all preceded her in death – Mary Young, George Brown, Walter Brown, and Charley Brown. Florence never married. With no children of her own, Florence focused her love throughout her life on her role as an Aunt. She had five nieces and nine nephews. During her lifetime, she was blessed to experience a major expansion of her role as an Aunt with the addition of several great-nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews. As a young girl at the age of 12, Florence experienced tuberculosis. This disease resulted in Florence having multiple surgeries and being confined to bed until she was 14. This debilitating health experience had a major impact on Florence’s life. During her recovery, Florence lost both of her parents within a short time period. By the time Florence was 16, she was under the guardianship of her brother, Walter. Florence would continue to live with Walter and his wife, Ruth, and their growing family until Florence was 33. While she lived with Walter’s family, she was actively and daily involved with caring for Walter’s four sons – James, Walter (Butch), Brian, and Jerry. The closeness of Florence’s love became ingrained in each of these nephews. Love was so strong that it is still cherished and will be for the remainder of their lives. In 1973 after Walter relocated his family to Phoenix, Arizona, Florence at the age of 33 decided it was time she became independent. And she remained independent until the last few months of her life. A very worthy accomplishment! Florence was actively involved with the Nazarene Church for many years. She enjoyed needlepoint in satin stitch, cross-stitch, and quilting. Her works are considered by many to be pieces of art of the highest quality.
