Florence M. (Solowianiuk) Zawalich, 96, of New Britain, the loving wife of the late John Zawalich, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor in New Britain. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Jan and Mary Solowianiuk, she moved to Poland where she lived for several years before returning to New Britain to start her family. Florence lost her husband at age 42 and was faced with the task of raising her children on her own, a task that she succeeded at with a quiet diligence. She worked as a cook at St. Lucian’s Residence in New Britain, retiring at 82 years old after 40 years of employment. A member of Sacred Heart Church, Florence was a woman of strong faith and humble of heart. Her love for her family knew no bounds. She was a talented seamstress and her knitted & crocheted creations will always be treasured by those who received them. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care, compassion and love that was given to her by her extended family at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Florence leaves her daughter Christine Palasek and her husband Edward of Berlin, her daughter-in-law Ruthie Zawalich DeJohn of New Britain, whom she loved like a daughter, her granddaughters; Jennifer Favara and her husband Marc and Laura Charamut and her husband Dan, all of Berlin; her twin great-grandsons Benjamin and Ryan Favara and her great-granddaughter Cecilia Charamut. In addition to her beloved husband John, she was predeceased by her son John F. Zawalich of New Britain and her four brothers.
