Florence Layman Wood, 89, of the King’s Grant Community and formerly of Fieldale, VA, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County. She was born on March 9, 1921 in Critz, VA to the late Pet Dillard Layman and Ever Florence Koger Layman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Merdith Wood; brother, Melvy Layman and sisters, Denia Layman, Geneva Layman Smith and Nannie Bet Layman. Mrs. Wood was a public health nurse for the Martinsville/Henry County Health Department for over 30 years and was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church, Stanleytown, VA. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law; Ninevah Wood and Daniel Rhyne Murray of Raleigh, NC; sister, Shirley Layman of Martinsville, VA and grandchild, Meredith Lindsay Murray.
