Florence Jane Riemann of Virginia, IL died July 24, 2011 at age 93 while residing at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.
She was born January 25, 1918 in Cass County, IL and lived there her entire life. She was the daughter of James Eugene Reid and Bessie Ellen Hankins Reid who preceded her in death. She married Alvin Riemann on December 30, 1937 and they were married sixty-four years at his passing.
Florence and Alvin were the parents of three surviving children, daughter Mary Riemann of Virginia, daughter Vicki Guffey (husband, Charles) of Virginia, and son Michael Riemann (wife, Theda) of Misenheimer, NC. In addition, Florence is survived by her sister Hilma Stein (and nephew and family) of Las Vegas, NV, four grandchildren Neil Riemann (wife, Maria) of Raleigh, NC, Lana Riemann-Royer (husband, Hal) of Misenheimer, NC, Jonathan Guffey of Franklin, TN, Amy Pherigo (husband, Tony) of Chandlerville and four great grandchildren Casey Riemann, Cammy Riemann, Ella Riemann-Royer and Anna Pherigo. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances, in infancy.
Florence taught at Olive Branch School (a country school near Virginia) before she was married. She then became a full-time homemaker, helped her husband on the farm, and later worked as bookkeeper for the family business. She practiced her faith in God each day and took great joy in teaching Sunday school.
Florence had a great love of books and reading. She spent many hours writing poems (some of them published) and stories of family history. She created incredible individual “life books” for family members that included photos, mementos, poems, stories and treasured memories. She loved making beautiful dolls and clothes for friends and family alike. These items and memories will be cherished for years to come.
