Florence G. Wargny, of Taneytown, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Lookabout Manor in Westminster.
Born December 16, 1916 in Princeton, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Matilda Golding. The family later moved to Relay, Maryland.
She married Frank O. Wargny on December 25, 1942.
She was a graduate of Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Later, she received a BA degree (1941) from Randolf-Macon Women’s College (Randolf College) in Lynchburg, Virginia, and in 1964, a MA degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
During her twenty-two year teaching career, she taught in a variety of area schools, including Taneytown High School, Taneytown Elementary School, Thurmont Elementary School, Thurmont Middle School, Emmitsburg Elementary, and even, briefly, the Harney one-room school.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 65 years, are daughters Nancy Wargny (& Michael Cowan) of Montreal, Canada; Patricia Grant (& Donald Grant) of Highland, Maryland; grandchildren, Tracy Chick of Montreal, Canada, Stephanie Grant of Candler, North Carolina, and Taylor Grant of Highland, Maryland. She is also survived by sisters Marie Barnes of Westminster, Maryland, Virginia Wilkinson of Houston, Texas, and Edith Harlacher of Fort Myers, Florida. She was predeceased by a brother, Warren Golding, and a sister, Elizabeth Hull.
