Florence E. McGregor-Marshall was born on January 13, 1948 to her parents Watt and Willie Mae McGregor in Quanah Texas. Florence was the ninth of twelve children, and the youngest family relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1952. Florence received her formal education through the Denver Public School system and graduated from Manual High School.
Florence gave birth to two sons, Dwayne “Slick” Campbell who proceeded her in death and Robert Thompson Jr. She was a very devoted mother, working hard to provide for her boys. In 1986 she became a grandmother and would later have nine more grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her children and grandchild best describe her as being a strict but very compassionate, fun, and loving women.
During her earlier years Florence worked for several different companies, but was never satisfied. This helped lead to her decision to open up her own business. Due to her strong passion for education and childcare Florence went back to school to obtain her directors certificate, and in 1990 she opened Day One Learning Center.
She believed in setting a strong foundation for early childhood education. Day One was more than just a business to Florence it was her pride and joy and one of her greatest accomplishments. She provided 100’s of children with the foundations of education, meals and a chance to explore their community through a variety of fieldtrips.
Florence continued her schooling and professional development over many years to stay current with changes in education and to continue providing excellent care. In addition to helping children and families Florence provided jobs as well as education opportunities to her family, friends and other members of the community.
In her spare time she enjoyed going on day long shopping trips with her niece Barbra Ann Harris, who was more like a sister. She also enjoyed traveling, collecting honorary annual crystal pieces, and attending concerts. She was a HUGE Smokey Robinson fan and would travel far and wide to go see him.
Florence has lived her life as a child of God.
