Florence E. Gabauer, 96

Troy Florence E. Gabauer, 96, ‘everybody’s favorite teacher’, died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late William H. Gabauer and Anne (Rice) Gabauer.

She was a lifelong resident of Troy and was educated at Troy High School, New York State College for Teachers and Syracuse University.

Miss Gabauer taught at Troy High School for 25 years and for 15 years at Tamarac Jr. and Sr. High School, where she chaired the Social Studies Department.

She was a long time member of the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was active as a member of the boards and agencies. She served on Church Women United and the Troy Area United Ministries. Miss Gabauer was a volunteer at the Rensselaer County Historical Society, a member of the Thursday Morning Club and the Troy Area Retired Teachers.

She is survived by a nephew, Peter Alden Gabauer, Jr., a grand niece, Megan Ancher Gabauer and grand nephew, Peter Ancher Gabauer of Washington DC. She was predeceased by two sisters, Edith B. and Mary E. Gabauer and two brothers, Peter A. Gabauer Sr. and William S. Gabauer.
