Norwich- Florence “Gay” (DeRico) Malafronte- 92 of East Main Street died Sunday April 22 at her home. She was born in Charlestown RI on January 10, 1920 to the late James and Angelina (Lionetti) DeRico. Florence was predeceased by her husband of 60 yrs Domenic Malafronte Sr who died on September 18, 2003 and her son Domenic Malafronte Jr. who died on August 22, 1995. Florence was survived by her sister Caroline Riley of Wisconsin. Her two sons James Malafronte and his wife Dawn of Colorado and John Malafronte and his wife Marianne of Norwich; five grandchildren Robert Malafronte and his wife Sarah and Bryon Malafronte and his wife Tiffiny both of Colorado. Deana Neault and her husband Jeffrey of Norwich, Chad Malafronte and his companion Elizabeth Coleman of Griswold, Michael Malafronte and his companion Katherine Michaud of Groton; ten great grandchildren Brionna, Jared, Jayna and Kylee Neault, Ava Malafronte, Sophia Malafronte, Skylar Malafronte, Robert and John Malafronte and Laura Clark; two great great grandchildren Liam and Lucas Clark. Florence was passionate about her family; her greatest love was her children, grand children and her great grand children. She loved to have them all around her and every Sunday she did just that. She will always be remembered by everyone for her cooking, not an event took place without her Italian cookies and pizza. Florence enjoyed knitting and would knit not only blankets but hats that she would send to our troops in Iraq. She holds a special place in all of our hearts and not a day will go by that she will not be missed.
