Florence L. Averso passed away on Wednesday, July 3rd. She was truly a remarkable lady and was deeply loved by all who knew her. Her family mourns her loss, but is rejoicing that she is now pain-free and reunited with our Great Lord. Florence was born on January 1st, 1921 in Calabria, Italy, to parents, Francesco and Filomena Morsilli. The family emigrated from Italy when she was a year old, entering the United States through Ellis Island, NY. Florence was the oldest of three daughters. Unfortunately, her youngest sister, Raffaella, died from pneumonia at age two. Florence and her sister, Helen, grew up in a traditional Italian family and started school not knowing any English. Thanks to the loving mentoring from a Jesuit teacher, they both eventually learned the needed skills to further their education. Florence completed her studies at secretarial school and went on to a very fulfilling career in the airline industry, where she eventually became the executive assistant to the Chief Pilot of American Airlines. Florence retired in 1984, and with husband Larry, relocated to Palm Desert, CA. where they enjoyed the beautiful weather, golfing, and making many new friendships. In 1994, they relocated to Peachtree City, GA to be closer to family.
